The concept of a National Cricket Team dates back to the 19th century, when England and Australia faced off in what became the very first Test match in 1877. That single fixture quietly created a template the entire cricketing world would follow for the next century and a half.
As colonial and Commonwealth ties expanded, more countries began fielding their own National Cricket Team — South Africa, the West Indies, New Zealand, India, and Pakistan all earned Test status through the 1900s.
